Bag Painting

My college roommate K came over for a short visit, and one of the things we did was play with paint.

She's working on a Maine series, which includes lots of lobsters.
We used old paper gift bags for warm up papers. Readily available, mostly recycled, and then usable too.

We had a fun morning. Just wish she lived closer for more frequent play dates!

More Abstract Pastels

I wanted to show you a few more of our abstract pastels. I really love them!

Does anyone know WHY Blogger sometimes decides to post photos the WRONG direction? I don't know how to fix this-so you'll just have to look at the one below sideways... (Yes, I had some heart-shaped leaves!)

Aren't they beautiful?

Leaf Inspired Abstracts

This year, we started Art Club with soft pastels to introduce line types.

I love how the pastels look on black paper- and the kids really enjoy them too.

Looking to leaves for inspiration, we saw all sorts of great edges, veins, stems, and holes that we could use in our abstract compositions. The colors were entirely up to the artists!

Cards and Tags

I'm teaching a little class for adults today- cards and tags from scraps.
The Joy card or tag is a stamp carved from an eraser. I love making those!

This one is sparkly, but it looks sorta plain in the photo. The white part is covered in sparkle glue, the star is metallic ink, and the center is a little jewel. Hmmm. Maybe we'll come up with something else.

I made this tag using the same glue/foil/shoe polish technique I used with my Art Club for our owl artwork.

I have a couple more but no photos of them. The class is one hour (taught three times, back to back). I wonder if we'll get them all done! Will let you know how it goes...

Quilt Group Friday in October

The Red Cross Quilt above seems appropriate to start with, though Helen didn't design this with Hurricane Sandy in mind. Helen's quilt is beautifully hand quilted.

(The devastation in the Eastern US is beyond belief. We can't imagine the scale of  loss, and our prayers are with all those who have suffered loss of loved ones and a place to call home.)

You may remember this one I was working on- I've now added the skinny black border and then the scrappy piano key border too.

We loved Terry's wool Halloween piece. She's so good with all of the details!

She also brought some little books she made- the pages are paper bags!

Here's another one by Helen- hand quilted sweetness- with just a tiny touch of black in the tiny inner border.

This queen-sized circle quilt is by Marsha- a wedding gift for one of her daughters. We still can't get enough of circles!

Kareena brought her finished koala bear baby quilt...for her first grandson.

I think I missed a couple, but that's all my photos this time. We had a yummy lunch- I was too busy eating to document it! :D

Make it a Wonderful Day- maybe for someone in need.
